On Nuclear Weapons and Nuclear Power: Read Joshua Holland's report on the Administration's mad plans for nuclear weapons and nuclear power. And then read the mad report on U.S. nuclear weapons policy from our military planners. (This Pentagon report, already overdue, was leaked by the Washington Post and is so unpalatable that it has not yet been presented to Congress -- but the plans are real and already being implemented.)

On Iran: Read the May 4 ALERT on Security Council Resolution from Reaching Critical Will. Investigate Information, resources and action suggestions on Nuclear Iran on Reaching Critical Will. United for Peace and Justice also calls for No War on Iran. WILPF member Jackie Cabasso was instrumental in drafting this one as well as the UFPJ statement on Iran. Read the letter from the President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran to President Bush.

Read calls from prominent Israelis for bombing of Iran nuclear facilities.

Read the New Yorker article by Seymour Hersh on U.S. plans for air attacks on Iranian nuclear sites. He reports that some knowledgeable sources expect the use of existing nuclear bunker busters against underground sites.

On April 27, 2006 the House passed H.R. 282, entitled: To hold the current regime in Iran accountable for its threatening behavior and to support a transition to democracy in Iran. Only 21 Representatives (including 6 Republicans) voted against the bill. Dennis Kucinich sees passage of H.R. 282 as giving the Administration legislation that can later be used to justify invasion of Iran.

On India: The U.S. Administration has been laying the groundwork for a "nuclear deal" with India since 2001. Federation of American Scientists published an excellent background report for Congress in July, 2005, examining the possible pitfalls in such an arrangement. We WILPFers can find it useful in understanding the ramifications of the action.

Representative Markey has introduced H Con Res 318 expressing concern re nuclear proliferation if this agreement is finalized.

WILPF opposes the agreement as undermining the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. WILPF also opposes the spread of nuclear power plants. Watch here for a joint U.S.-India-International WILPF statement on the issue, and for action suggestions.
